Howdy, Ags!
As many of you may have heard about or seen on social media, we recently have had numerous incidents involving rental bikes being placed perilously on top of buildings across campus. This practice poses a significant risk to those directly involved in placing bikes on buildings, the risk of a bike falling and injuring others and the risk of damaging university property.
Those involved in these "pranks" are putting us all at risk and are not upholding the Aggie Core Values by putting themselves and others in harm's way.
Texas A&M has had to expend significant resources to remove the bikes from the tops of buildings on campus, including having to utilize the College Station Fire Department, Texas A&M employees and SSC staff - all at a significant cost to the university and taxpayers.
Such dangerous pranks are in direct violation of student and university rules. Texas A&M will pursue student conduct charges against those found responsible, which could lead to serious sanctions such as suspension or expulsion, as well as having to repay costs incurred by the university to remove the bikes. Additionally, those involved could face legal consequences.
We all need to put a stop to this behavior and remember to uphold our Core Values of respect, excellence, leadership, loyalty, integrity and selfless service in all that we do.
I am asking all Aggies - especially our students - to step up and help us stop this dangerous and costly activity immediately, thereby eliminating the risk to all who are on our campus each day. If you happen to know anyone involved in these incidents, let them know they could face serious disciplinary and legal action, in addition to the significant risk they pose to themselves and their fellow Aggies. The risks and the consequences are simply not worth it.
Let's all work together as Aggies to stop this practice and ensure that Texas A&M remains a safe place to live, work, visit and study every day.
Thanks for your support in helping us keep our campus safe for all.
Gig 'em!
