YELL LEADER ADVISOR FUND
GOAL: $1.5 MILLION
The Yell Leader advisors have a wealth of knowledge on policies, procedures, and student rules related to student organizations. They work collaboratively with the Yell leaders by sharing responsibility for the program and its events. Some of these duties include:
- Helping Yell Leaders use their best judgment in selecting and planning programs.
- Providing an outlet for the Yell Leaders to talk about classes, their role in the organization and everyday issues that students face.
- Support and guide the strategic direction of the group, empowering Yell Leaders to make fair, intelligent, and reasonable decisions based on institutional guiding boundaries.
- Maintaining access to the guiding documents and policies for the Yell Leaders, including an updated copy of the organization’s constitution and operations manual.
- Reporting and following up on any possible discipline issues for the Yell Leaders.
- Being aware of and having an understanding of rules pertaining to student organizations at Texas A&M, as well as rules governing Texas A&M students.
- Being aware of liability issues (i.e. hazing, alcohol, etc.) and advising the organization to make reasonable and prudent decisions regarding these issues when planning activities.
- Attending meetings of the organization whenever possible.
- Being available to the Yell Leaders on a regular basis as a mentor for advice and consultation.
The Texas A&M Yell Leaders are advised by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Your gifts to the Yell Leaders’ Endowed Advisor Fund would offset the salary of one advisor, providing one quarter of his or her salary, or $60,000 per year.

“One of the key elements to our student leadership was the partnership we shared with our Yell Leader Advisor, Rusty Thompson. Rusty never dictated what to do, but encouraged and helped us make decisions each day. From daily time management and operational issues to some of the most difficult decisions I have ever faced, he empowered the five of us to make the right decision and leverage what we had learned. His role alone with the office of Student Affairs and Dr. Sutherland were critical especially with the events we faced in the Fall of 1999. This empowerment to be student leaders is what makes our school so great.”
