MY AGGIE STORY
Gracie Dorris ‘22
By Maddy Isbell ’22, Division of Student Affairs
Gracie Dorris takes pride in her passion for being involved in everything that she does and here at TAMU, the same is true. She has dived into a multitude of organizations including Freshman Aggies Spreading Tradition, Fish Camp, and Aggie Belles.
“My favorite thing about Texas A&M is the endless opportunities to get involved and make an impact on those around you,” Gracie said. “I have found the most fulfillment through my organizational and professional involvement at A&M.”
On top of being involved in these on-campus organizations, Gracie also serves as the marketing student worker for the Becky Gates Children’s Center, a children’s daycare center that serves the children of Texas A&M students, faculty, and staff that is located under the Division of Student Affairs. During her time there, she has served as a classroom worker, front desk staff, and now a marketing student worker.
“Working at BGCC has been an amazing experience and allowed me to grow both personally and professionally,” Gracie said. “The staff has always been so supportive of me by giving me opportunities and different responsibilities around the center. The administrative staff is always looking to give me different opportunities that will help me in the future.”
Gracie’s responsibilities at the center include planning, organizing, and marketing different events. Her recent projects include planning a playground grand opening and bookfair. She also runs the center’s social media and creates newsletters.
“I’ve gotten to meet so many amazing faculty and staff members at A&M that I never would have had the chance to interact with if it had not been for BGCC,” Gracie said. “The support I have at BGCC has made me feel extremely prepared and confident to graduate and move into a new professional role.”
Gracie’s involvement and leadership in her organizations has made a true impact on others around her. As head director of Freshman Aggies Spreading Tradition in 2020, Gracie’s priority was to ensure that incoming freshman students would still have a smooth and enjoyable experience during their first semester at A&M.
“Serving as Head Director of FAST allowed me to create friendships that will last a lifetime and develop leadership skills that will help me in any position I pursue in my future,” Gracie said.
Gracie’s involvement on campus has not always been easy. With work, school, and clubs, Gracie has occasionally found herself overwhelmed. However, her support systems serve as encouragement for her to continue. To Gracie, the stress of balancing multiple organizations is worth it, and she encourages others to do the same.
“I think I serve as an example that, if you want to come to this university and make an impact on those around you, it is right at your fingertips,” she said. “ I am very passionate about encouraging incoming or prospective students to not let these college years go by without getting involved.”
Gracie plans to graduate in May of 2022 and pursue a career in public relations. The opportunities and experience that the Becky Gates Children’s Center has provided Gracie will serve as a launchpad to her future endeavors.
