Fraternity and Sorority Life reached a milestone this year, achieving 40 years on campus at Texas A&M University. To celebrate in style, they are throwing a concert for the books this April. Right Round Aggieland will star Flo Rida, an American rapper, singer and songwriter who became popular in 2007 with his debut single "Low." Eighteen years after the hit that put him on the map, he's making his way to College Station, Texas, to perform with little image, a local alternative pop band from Dallas, at Reed Arena on Friday, April 11.

Flo Rida's hits such as "Whistle," "My House," "Wild Ones," "Right Round" and "GDFR" have now become nostalgic throwbacks for millennials and 2000s "oldies" that Gen Zers have rediscovered. And thanks to a dedicated group of Aggie Greeks, the students at Texas A&M and Bryan/College Station community will get to come together for a celebration of Aggie Greek life and to enjoy a genre of music that isn’t featured live in this area very often.
"With an artist like Flo Rida, the event brings a fresh vibe to Aggieland," said Cade Mitchell '25, co-lead of the executive student liaisons for Right Round Aggieland. "And I'm looking forward to seeing the joy it sparks among everyone who attends."
What's unique about this concert coming to Texas A&M is not only the genre, but the student-led force behind every step of concert planning.
Right Round Aggieland is a byproduct of student voices and leadership efforts. Starting from feedback given at a retreat, where presidents from each fraternity and sorority came together for a weekend of workshops, to the poll sent out before the end of the spring 2024 semester to Aggie Greek students, and the student liaison committees formed with the assistance of the Fraternity and Sorority Life, planning to host Flo Rida in Aggieland became a reality.
"Planning an arena concert is a rare experience for the average college student, and it has been wonderful to watch these students learn how to put together a massive event like this. It is a huge undertaking," said Shante Hearst, assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Life within the Department of Student Activities. "I'm incredibly proud and impressed with the work that these student leaders are doing to plan and execute this event. Each of these students are gaining both tangible and soft skills that will carry with them into their future careers."

Share more about the concert planning process, what went into it and how has the experience been?
Mitchell: "The concert planning process has been a while in the making, sparked by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life's desire to find a meaningful way to celebrate its 40th anniversary and best serve our community. From there, it became about assembling the right team, setting clear goals, and collaborating with various campus organizations to bring that vision to life. A significant part of the process has involved handling logistics: securing the venue, managing budgets, and ensuring all necessary permissions and resources were in place. Collaboration has been essential, from working with vendors and artists to coordinating with university staff for safety and promotion."
Why do you feel excited for Aggies and the Bryan/College Station Community to attend Right Round Aggieland?
Franco: "I'm excited for Aggies to come to this concert because it's a genre we've never really seen come to Aggieland before. We usually have country concerts which I am in no opposition to, but this is gonna be just as fun because we all grew up hearing Flo Rida songs on the radio."
Mitchell: "I'm excited for Aggies to attend because this concert is more than just a celebration. It's an opportunity for the entire community to come together and create lasting memories. It's a chance for students to take a break from their routines, enjoy a high-energy performance, and experience something new and exciting right here on campus."
Rodriguez: "I'm also excited for the Bryan-College Station community to join Aggie Greek life students and the Texas A&M community for this celebration. We wanted to extend Right Round Aggieland beyond the university level and to the surrounding communities with an artist that would resonate with a broader audience and we felt that Flo Rida was perfect for that."
How has being involved in this concert planning process and Greek life has impacted your experience at Texas A&M?
Franco: "I love working with Gabe and Cade, my co-leads, committee members and especially my admin. We all work very hard together so this can be an exciting and fun time for everybody, including our staff. I got involved in Greek life as a junior, but still have had plenty of opportunities. For one I wouldn't be in the position I have right now as a student liaison for Right Round Aggieland. Also I found out about internships that I wouldn't have known about, if it wasn't for the girls I've met in my chapter. So it has benefited me in a very positive way and I'm very blessed to be a part of the chapter that I'm in. I've made amazing friends and memories that I cherish."
Mitchell: "This experience has been both challenging and rewarding, teaching me and the other student executives valuable lessons in leadership, organization, and the power of teamwork in bringing a large-scale event to life. Being involved in Greek life overall has connected me to a deeper network of people who share similar values of leadership, service, and scholarship. My role in the Nu Delta Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has especially shaped my experience, challenging me to grow as a leader."
Rodriguez: "My leadership skills as a whole have continued to develop because of the complex situations I have navigated through with the support of fraternity and sorority life, including planning Right Round Aggieland. I would say becoming a part of the Aggie Greek family here at Texas A&M University allowed me to find a tight-knit community within this large university. With this, I have developed relationships within not only the Multicultural Greek Council, but across the other three councils as well."
What are your plans for after graduation?
Franco: "The ultimate goal is law school, so after graduation in December I will get certified to become a stenographer and work while I study to take the LSAT."
Mitchell: "After graduation, I plan to begin my career as a project or field engineer in construction management. My long-term goal is to use this expertise to help build sustainable housing in impoverished communities, creating meaningful solutions for those affected by housing insecurity and making a lasting, positive impact on underserved populations."
Rodriguez: "Upon completion of my undergraduate degree in Construction Science from Texas A&M University, I plan on continuing my relationship with McCownGordon Construction. After interning with them this past summer and learning that they are a people-first construction company, there is no doubt in my mind about pursuing a career with them."
