The performance is the grand finale of the convention and will take place at 8 p.m. at the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on March 8.
“As a past president of the American Bandmasters Association, I am highly honored to have been invited to conduct the Joint Armed Forces Band in a premiere performance at such a prestigious event,” said Dr. Rhea, who will be conducting a piece by Jim Stephenson.
Comprising skilled musicians from various branches of the armed forces, the Joint Armed Forces Band showcases a diverse array of talents, instruments, and styles. Whether they are performing at official ceremonies, patriotic events, or public concerts, the Joint Armed Forces Band exemplifies professionalism and dedication, inspiring both civilians and service members alike.
Beyond their performances, the Joint Armed Forces Band plays an important role in fostering camaraderie and morale within the armed forces community. Through a shared passion for music, members of the band forge strong bonds that transcend rank and branch affiliations.
Their rehearsals and performances serve as opportunities for service members to come together, share experiences, and build friendships in the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Moreover, their outreach efforts extend beyond military installations, as they engage with civilian audiences, promoting understanding and appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of those who serve their country.
This will be the 89th installment of the American Bandmasters Convention. The American Bandmasters Association was founded in 1928 and the first convention was held in 1930. The annual gathering serves as a platform for band directors, composers, conductors, and educators to exchange ideas, share innovations, and celebrate the rich tradition of American band music.
Attendees engage in a diverse array of activities, including masterclasses, panel discussions, and performances by renowned ensembles. The ABA conference is not only a forum for professional development but also a celebration of the artistry and collaborative spirit that define the world of concert bands. Through this conference, the ABA continues to foster a sense of community among those dedicated to advancing the standards of excellence in the realm of wind and symphonic music across the nation.
