Texas A&M University Career Center names Des Wilson ‘85 as its new executive director.
Des Wilson has worked in career services at Texas A&M for more than ten years, most recently serving as the director of employment services. In this role, she managed a team connecting students and employers with various opportunities.
“The importance of high quality and expanded employer relations is paramount in today’s college campus recruitment,” said Justin Jeffery, Ph.D., assistant vice president for student affairs. “Des Wilson’s experience in the private sector coupled with the relationships she’s built with employers around the world will ensure Texas A&M current and former students remain a top recruiting target.”
Prior to coming to Texas A&M, Wilson’s more than 25 year career in the private sector spanned several industries including oil and gas, information technology and banking and consulting. She brought her diverse experience to the Career Center to inspire students to pursue their passions and stay on track.
“The Career Center exists to support every Aggie. We are here for the Aggies attending New Student Conferences and for those reaching out after being in the workforce for years,” she said. “The work we do directly changes the trajectory of individuals, their families and future generations every single day. These Aggies actually go out and change the world! It is incredibly humbling to play a role in impacting so many students.”
Des Wilson follows previous executive director of the Career Center, Samantha Wilson, who served Texas A&M for more than 30 years.
In her new role, Wilson plans to bring more awareness to the services and support the Career Center provides to current and former students.
“In order to effectively engage with students, faculty and staff, we must continue to build relationships,” she said. “We must build relationships with all of our stakeholders and be creative in how we deliver our services.”
