Welcome to Aggieland!
The transition to college can feel overwhelming to any new student. Thankfully Texas A&M University and the Division of Student Affairs have a variety of resources for a great first semester and beyond!
1. RecSports
Need a place to get a workout in or chill between classes? Rec Sports has three Rec Centers students can utilize with strength training and cardio equipment, rock climbing facilities, a natatorium and more. Rec Sports also offers group fitness classes, personal training and fitness bootcamps.If you are looking to get away from campus and out into nature for a bit, check out Outdoor Adventures! Through Outdoor Adventures students can rent outdoor gear, sign up for trips and attend clinics to learn outdoors skills.
2. Student Activities Student Organization Directory
Joining a student organization is a great way to get involved and make friends on campus. The Student Activities website has a searchable directory of Texas A&M’s over 1,300 student organizations, making it easy to find your community.
3. Career Center
Looking ahead? The Career Center offers advising, career fairs and online resources that help students explore their futures. The Career Center even has a team dedicated to helping first and second year students get started with exploring major interests, finding internships and creating a resume.
The Career Center offers multiple Career Fairs each semester that are focused on a variety of industries and majors.
4. Disability Resources
Disability Resources offers accommodations coordination, evaluation referral, disability-related information, assistive technology services, sign language interpreting and transcription services for academically related purposes. Disability Resources also works with the Career Center to provide career resources to students with disabilities. In addition, Disability Resources has compiled a list of student organizations focused on the interests and needs of students with disabilities.
5. Health Promotion
Health Promotion offers a variety of programs and campus events focused on student health and well-being.
On the Health Promotion website, you can find resources on healthy eating, ways to cope with stress and tips for getting a good night’s sleep.
6. University Health Services
University Health Services provides students with programming focused on mental and physical health. Through mental health services at University Health Services, students can access short-term counseling services, group therapy, workshops and referrals to community providers and services. With student medical care, students can schedule medical appointments, have prescriptions filled at the pharmacy and receive preventative care.
7. The 12th Can Food Pantry
The 12th Can is a non-profit student organization dedicated to eliminating food insecurity at Texas A&M. Students, staff and faculty in need can sign up for a pantry opening to choose their own goods or pick up a prepackaged bag. The 12th Can website also provides a list of resources for times when the pantry is not open.
8. CARPOOL
Need a ride? Texas A&M University CARPOOL is a student-run non-profit that provides free ride home Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. during the fall and spring semesters. Anyone in the Bryan/College Station city limits, Texas A&M student or not, can use CARPOOL to get a safe ride home.
9. Corps Escort
The Corps of Cadets Guard Room Escort Program provides a free escort service to Texas A&M students and staff. Members of the campus community can request a Corps escort on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. and 24-hours on weekends. The phone number for the Corps Guard Room can be found on the back of your student ID.
10. Residence Life Academic Support Programs
Students living on campus have access to Residence Life’s academic programs including the Academic Peer Mentors program. This program includes Academic Checks-Ups which are one-on-one academic coaching from a peer mentor and drop-in office hours with peer mentors.
11. SGA student discount directory
The Texas A&M Student Government Association has compiled a list of student discounts around town to take advantage of.
12. Student Affairs Calendar
The Division of Student Affairs calendar has links to all the fun and important events happening from various departments around campus.
