” I always wanted to make a visible difference in the lives of others. 12th Can has given me a way to make a direct impact on the community that was so welcoming to me when I arrived at Texas A&M. I wasn’t searching for a leadership role, but as I spent more time giving back, I realized that volunteering for a leadership role would give me a greater opportunity to serve.”

The 12th Can is a student-run food pantry located at Texas A&M to serve all students, faculty, and staff in need of assistance. Since opening its doors in November 2013, it has served more than 90,000 pounds of food. The 12th Can is affiliated with Brazos Valley Food Bank as a program partner, and resides under the Student Government Association. Its goal is to eliminate hunger at Texas A&M, bring awareness to food insecurity in college communities, and to show others the power of the Aggie spirit.

“My entire perspective of the Aggie community has changed for the better due to the interactions I’ve had with The 12th Can clients, fellow volunteers, and affiliated student organizations on campus that want to strive to make Texas A&M a better place for the future.”

“The 12th Can has molded me into the best version of myself I could have imagined. I would not be the person or leader I am today without the tools and experience I have gained while volunteering at and leading The 12th Can. I have grown so much at Texas A&M, but most of my growth has been due to my time spent with The 12th Can. In the Brazos Valley area, one in five people live in food-insecure households. This statistics are worse among college students. By joining The 12th Can, you are able to serve your fellow Aggies selflessly with some fun and interesting people from all walks of life.”
