Student at an organization table speaking with an interested student about the org at an MSC Club Crawl event in Rudder Exhibit Hall

With more than 1,300 registered student organizations at Texas A&M, you can find a group that touches nearly every topic you can think of. Spanning a range of categories like social, professional, service, arts and entertainment, health, sports and recreation, the student organization landscape in Aggieland is one-of-a-kind. There is truly a home here for everybody.

Getting involved with a student organization is also much more than a line item on your resume (although it totally benefits that, too). It means you get to live out what you’re passionate about and pursue what matters to you most with others who are interested in the same things. And that’s where Club Crawl comes in.

If you’ve never heard of it, have never been or are considering going, Club Crawl is an event where twice a year, the best and brightest Aggies represent their student organizations in hopes of meeting new members. In a festival-style set-up with an interactive and entertaining vibe, Club Crawl is designed to help you make genuine connections. Hundreds of student organizations literally come right to you so you can explore what’s out there and find your people.

We know that the numbers and the idea of networking can feel like a lot. But before you’re tempted to get overwhelmed, remember that the goal isn’t to see or join everything.

The beauty of Club Crawl is that you can talk to one student organization, or 100. It’s up to you — it’s all about what you’re interested in and finding the place (and people) that will help make Texas A&M feel smaller. Plus, you will probably score some free snacks and swag while you’re at it. We call that a win-win.

To help you navigate all that Club Crawl has to offer, we put together a guide with practical advice and tips that any Aggie can use.

Before You Go:

  • Use Get Involved to get a general idea of what types of organizations interest you and create an itinerary to map out which org tables you want to visit.
    • Don’t know where to start? Get Involved has an org matching feature that will provide personal recommendations based on information you provide. (Directions listed at the end of the blog post.)
  • Wear comfortable shoes.
    • Spring Club Crawl: You’ll be walking around the Memorial Student Center!
    • Fall Club Crawl: You’ll be walking between multiple venues on campus!
  • Bring a charged phone and maybe a portable charger. You’ll want to take photos, get contact info, and possibly save organizations you find interesting.
  • Hydrate! Bring your favorite reusable water bottle./m

Pro Tip: Stay open-minded. With more than 1,300 opportunities, you might discover something unexpected.

During the Event:

  • Don’t try to see everything. Focus on quality conversations over quantity.
  • Collect contact info so you can follow up. Get Instagram handles, GroupMe links or email addresses.
  • Ask specific questions:
    • When do you meet? Are there membership fees? What’s the time commitment? Do I need experience? What do new members actually do?
  • Keep an eye out for the Freshmen Friendly image when you’re exploring. This image will be used by all orgs who are currently accepting freshmen.
    • Fall Club Crawl Only: If you’re a freshman, consider stopping at the VIP FLO Zone. The VIP Flo Zone begins an hour before the event.
  • Grad Students, there will also be a designation for orgs who are accepting grad student members.

Pro Tip: Be yourself! Focus more on personal connections than impressive elevator pitches.

Strategy:

  • Use your custom itinerary from Get Involved to map out your route and see where the orgs you’re interested in are located.
  • If you go with friends, be okay with splitting up occasionally. You might have different interests, and you can message each other when you find something cool. It’s also okay to go alone. You’re guaranteed to meet new people!
  • If a table has a crowd, circle back later. You’ll get the chance for better conversations when it’s less busy.

Pro Tip: Don’t feel pressure to commit to anything, see where you’ve made connections and felt the most interested and go from there.
