Howdy and welcome to the Student Affairs Interest Group website! We appreciate your interest in growing our profession at Texas A&M University! We look forward to seeing you at one of our events and joining the discussions with undergraduate students, division staff, and members in the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Graduate Program at Texas A&M University.

Purpose Statement

The Student Affairs Interest Group at Texas A&M University would provide learning opportunities designed to introduce students to the field of student affairs, clarify career objectives within the field and enhance student’s preparedness for graduate education. This is accomplished through workshops, seminars, professional experiences, and a continued mentorship from a staff member within the Division.

Program Outcomes

• Introduce students to the profession of student affairs;
• Promote self-awareness with respect to career goals, individual skills, values, and preparedness;
• Introduce the varied aspects of professional success within student affairs;
• Promote understanding of the higher educational institutional types, their varied missions, and primary functional areas within student affairs;
• Foster an understanding of the profession’s use of student development theory in support of it’s commitment to student success;
• Promote opportunities (conferences, internships, fellowships) offered by professional associations for students to learn about the field.
• Improve career preparation, preparedness and prospects for graduate education in a student affairs or higher education graduate preparation program;
