The Division of Student Affairs is committed to the promotion and affirmation of community building. All members in the Division and University community are expected to respect the dignity and worth of individuals of all backgrounds. Our belief is that community is achieved through RESPECT,
Reaffirming
Equality through
Sensitivity
Patience and
Education leading to
Communication and
Trust.
The ultimate goal is that students and staff recognize the value of a community that respects the diversity of its constituents and seeks to understand the commonalties.
All of our departments embrace diversity and demonstrate this through collaborative programming, workshops, education, and leadership. Our division has several departments with a specific mission to provide education and diversity programming.
Disability Services (DS) provides services to students with disabilities to insure accessibility to university programs. DS offers accommodations counseling, evaluation referral, disability-related information, adaptive technology counseling and equipment, and interpreter services for academically related purposes.
The GLBT Resource Center is a resource and referral center for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Aggies and their straight supporters. The Center educates campus and community constituencies on GLBT issues through programming about sexual orientation and gender identity/expression, advocacy, leadership, and visibility. The GLBT Resource Center also collaborates with student organizations, campus departments, and local community organizations to provide students with access to resources, activities, and support services.
The Department of Multicultural Services is located in the heart of student activity, on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center. The department goals are to assist underrepresented students transitioning to Texas A&M University while providing academic and educational services for all students. This is accomplished by providing leadership opportunities, co-curricular and extra curricular activities that inform, educate, engage, challenge, and enhance students’ development and global perspectives.
The Women's Resource Center serves as a symbol for the university’s commitment to inclusion and equal access for women faculty, staff, and students, and thus celebrates the achievements of women while calling attention to and challenging the barriers that inhibit the full inclusion of women in the A&M community and beyond.
