Each year, the Division of Student Affairs recognizes outstanding staff achievements. All recipients will be announced and honored at the May 6 Division of Student Affairs Awards Ceremony.

Awards of Distinction
Awarded to five full-time staff, one graduate assistant and one team.

Who is Eligible
All exempt and nonexempt employees below the level of department head or director are eligible.
- Nominees must be full-time and budgeted at least 50% time.
- Nominees must have a minimum of six months of service, as of March 3, 2009, in current department or any other department within the Division of Student Affairs.
- Nominees must not have received a Division-level award within the past three years.
Criteria
- Recipients are recognized for their outstanding service on behalf of Texas A&M University and the Division of Student Affairs. The selection committee considers, but is not limited to, the following criteria:
- Contributions toward the Division’s core values of caring, diversity, respect, integrity, excellence, and service
- Contributions toward job excellence - demonstrating performance to the job that is consistently outstanding and frequently outside the normal scope of prescribed duties
- Innovation and leadership – demonstrating independent action and resourcefulness; encouraging new ideas and creativity; exhibiting leadership qualities within the context of position responsibilities; demonstrating other skills that exceed work expectations
Reward and Recognition Given
- Each recipient will receive a $500 cash award and memento.
- The selected team will receive individual plaques; team members will share a total cash award of $500.

Randy Matson ’67 Association of Former Students Award
Awarded to three individuals.

Who is Eligible
- Nominees must have completed three full years of service as a nonclassified, exempt staff member in the Division of Student Affairs by January 1, 2009.
- Nominees must be below the level of department head or director.
- Nominees must be full-time and budgeted at least 50% time.
- Nominees must not have been a recipient of an AFS University Level Award in the past five years.
Criteria
- Recipients are recognized for significant contributions to an environment that enhances the Student Affairs mission at Texas A&M University. The award honors outstanding service beyond the expectations of one’s position. Among the criteria that can be addressed in the nomination are:
- Diversity and complexity of responsibilities
- Excellence in performing job responsibilities
- Dedication & commitment in going “above and beyond” the call of duty
- A team player within the department and Division
- Overall contributions to the Division and to Texas A&M University
- Contributions to the student affairs profession
- Direct or indirect impact on the development of students and student groups in creating an environment which enhances student development
Reward and Recognition Given
- Each recipient will receive $2,000 and a framed certificate from The Association of Former Students.
Nomination Process
- Nominations will be accepted through Friday, March 6, 2009.
- Nomination submissions must include completion of the online nomination form, a nomination letter, current biographical data or resume, and no more than four one-page letters of support.
- Any student, student organization, faculty or staff member at the University may nominate an individual.

John J. Koldus Award
Awarded to one individual.

Who is Eligible
- Nominees must be presently employed at Texas A&M University as a faculty or staff member.
Criteria
- This award is given to an outstanding faculty or staff member for his or her strong interest in overall student growth, education, and unity. The recipient goes beyond occupational requirements – through guidance, leadership and personal interest – to enhance students’ experiences at Texas A&M University. The selection committee considers, but is not limited to, the following criteria:
- Maintains direct student contact and is a role model for others
- Serves as an advocate for students and student issues
- Understands that personal circumstances affect learning
- Shows a commitment to students’ well-being
- Sees each student as unique
Reward and Recognition Given
- The recipient will receive a plaque and the opportunity to designate a $2,000 honorarium to a TAMU student organization or student activity.

- Any student, student organization, faculty or staff member may nominate an individual for the award
